"Symbolically speaking, letting me into wherever it is he lives was really letting me in, I suspected. No more walls." - as entertaining as the premise of this story is, this is just a prime example of the entire lack of subtext in the novel. Literally explaining the symbolism in your story defeats the purpose of using it in the first place. It IS possible to leave a few things unspoken!
