again on the direct exclamation, i’ve collected more:
“—tears of the moon!”
“—so much water!”
“—I could knit!”
dont use an em dash and break us out of the story just for some stupid shit. it’s such a lazy way to write surprise. you can convey awe by, idk, describing the the body of water&how bit it seems, or by how the character *feels* about being able to knit again.
i will keep reading tho.

“I froze. Let out a sharp breath.” “I let go. Released everything.” “I pinched my eyes shut, mustered a scowl.”

i’m having so much trouble understanding why i like this book. the writing is like. it’s not bad but it’s also not great. it leaves a little to be desired and the pacing is horrendous. in 200 pages we have gone from a poor port town, to losing family in the war, to competing in three sewing trials, to becoming imperial tailor, to travelling through the country & being stuck in the desert. it’s good but wow
