A big grey bird was hopping along the branch of a thorn tree. It looked like a loerie ― but with a wild hairstyle.

Funny reading this when I finished The Go-Away Bird and Other Stories so recently.

She wiped her desk with a tissue, although it looked quite clean to me. Maybe that's the way to do it: make the dust know you'll fight it hard, and then it won't bother to settle in the first place. (p. 96)
