I'm familiar with most of the films under discussion in this lecture series and in an odd way, these lectures remind me of DVD commentaries if they were honest about the historicity of these movies.

So far, I'm not disappointed. The historian lecturing here has separated fact from fiction in a number of aspects of Quo Vadis, Ben-Hur and Spartacus so far and praised them for veracity where the films are accurate to the history. Interesting stuff.

I've long wanted to read a book that compared historical figures and events to their cinematic counterparts, so this book, temporarily free on Audible, is a great opportunity to study the contrast between the histories and the films of ancient Rome. The first film under study is 1951's Quo Vadis (based on the novel of the same name), one I haven't seen since I was a kid.
