So far, in Catch-22, the author's tone is mainly sarcastic and ridiculous. This is because Joseph Heller creates crazy situations of characters to make something serious more funny and enjoyable to read. Heller is also being critical about the war by explaining in ways how pointless war can be. The book jumps around sometimes in time making some important details in characters come later.
