read the chapters on male entitlness to consent and healthcare, the healthcare chapter in particular was SO interesting. I learned that studies have shown that people tend to be more sympathetic and worried about boy infants crying than girl infants?? As if gender bias couldn’t get more insane omfg

Gender bias creates a double bind for women in leadership and electoral politics. When women’s competence is ambiguous, they are systematically judged as less competent than men. But when women’s competence is clearly established, they are penalized on likability, being perceived as hostile, abrasive, or untrustworthy. Men do not face this tradeoff.
