Oh boy. Really, impossibly screwed up. Was not prepared for how twisted this got. Probably, given current conventions in lit and even romance, should have come with some content warnings. Not the typical reskinned Sherlock Holmes/Doctor Watson characters most Victorian mlm writers use… although the lead, Francis Harte, bears a resemblance to Watson and even name checks him. I like some of Harper Fox’s other work!

Bad. Not good. The age gap is supposed to be ~5 years between two men in their 20s but (as others have pointed out) it reads far more like a relationship between a man in his 30-40s and a 14-16 y/o boy. Doesn't help that the only quality Frank constantly describes in Gracie is his innocence, naivety, simplicity, and occasionally admires his "flashes of adulthood, oncoming no nobility".
