With a deep breath, she opened the bathroom door and stepped out. Unfortunately, not to the reaction she’d hoped for. On the bed, Cam was sound asleep. Cam woke in a strange bed, alone. His last memory was of trying to get Veronica’s clothes off. After that, he had nothing.

“No one has ever had this effect on me. I’m not sure how to process it.” Cam trailed his thumb along her jaw, unable to fully relax. “There are things about me that you don’t know. Things you might not like.”

Veronica shrugged the dress to the floor, and to her great satisfaction, Cam stared in wonder before running a hand across her skin. Exploring. Admiring. Worshiping. “Better than I imagined,” he muttered. “You’ve been imagining this?” she asked, dazed by the raw appreciation in his eyes. “For days.”

The one time during his childhood that he’d allowed himself to relax, Cam had been ripped from his bed, tossed into a pickup, and never had a moment’s peace again. Not until he’d grown tall enough and strong enough to take care of himself did his life been somewhat tolerable again.

“Don’t embarrass me. Or scare him off. I really like him.” Finally, a statement of truth. Cam didn’t have to take a drunk woman home, and he likely regretted the decision right about now, but he’d done it. And he’d tagged along today for no reason other than Veronica didn’t want to feel like a loser for one afternoon.

The name sounded familiar, so Cam had done a quick search to see if anything came up. His mystery woman had quite the resume. An award-winning producer involved in the making of more than a dozen number one country hits. Seemed like a person of her success and stature wouldn’t need to go out alone.

Veronica Shepherd was drunk. But then, what was a pity party without a hefty dose of alcohol? After the phone call from her ex—who also happened to be her best friend—announcing his impending nuptials, Veronica faced a choice. Spend Christmas Eve drinking herself into oblivion alone on her couch, or recruit another friend for a night out on the town.
