Ira, Forde, and the rest of the squadron have been called back to their original base to battle the Germans in support of a new ground offensive. While they are finally flying better planes (Camels), they are struggling with the fall weather. Rain on canvas wings is not a good mix, but they are being sent up anyway. When will Ira take command of a flight?

Ira and Forde are in a new offensive in the second part of the book. It seems that the Sopwith Pups they have been flying are outdated and dangerous, but now they are getting Camels. These, too, are dangerous, because they are now flying a much faster, powerful, acrobatic plane and they have to adapt. Exciting flying descriptions in this part so far!

Ira is clearly a natural in a plane. It must be so frustrating for him to be able to fly and perform better in the air but have to follow the lead of a reluctant and, therefore, dangerous squadron leader who almost gets them killed daily. When will Ira move ahead of Wyatt and take command? Sad that McFadden was killed.

I have read the first two chapters and am mostly more interested in this than the last WW1 Flying story I read. This one is a bit more action/flying based, although the first chapter included none. But I am intrigued how Ira will get going in the new Sopwith Pups.
