Bavinck may be the great modern man. I resonate with him dearly.

Journal entry from Bavinck on December 13th, 1875, “It was my birthday, I received a box of 250 cigars from Albert Gunnink.”

So good! Jan Bavinck’s (Herman’s father) exhortation to the Theological School in Kampen, calling them to have a sanctifying presence in the Dutch culture:

"The Lord, the King of the church, is watching you; the Christian Reformed Church is watching you; the Netherlands is watching you; yes, the eyes of thousands, of friends and foes, are upon you!”
