Dotes are starting to connect. They have evidence that the baker did the hit-and-run, just not high enough standards of proof. They are in the last stretch of completing this case. It seems as if the family is starting to go back to normal activities and growing back together.

In the end, Jeremy committed the hit-and-run, and Erica is devastated and angry. Nora visits Jeremy in jail, trying to understand his actions, and she is torn between her feelings for him and the need for justice for her father. This is a lot of drama, which I enjoy in a book, and it was pretty easy to read because Lalami made it so that there aren't many boring parts. This book showed me that not everyone is honest.

I was caught off guard when I found out that Anderson Barker was the one who killed Driss. I read more about the Land Rover altercation. Anderson is always looking for the bad, never the good. I love Nora and Jeremy as a couple. I think he is helping Nora a lot with grief and more. Hopefully, Efraín will step up and say something; it would definitely help bring justice to this case and get Barker in jail.

As the book moves on, secrets start to unravel. Nora’s family is slowly starting to fall apart and is becoming chaotic. I feel like the author made a huge point on legacy and what people leave behind. He left so much weight on his family and that greatly affected them.

What an ending to the book, I never expected that to happen. Jeremy did a normal car stop and suddenly it became the biggest game changer in the book. For me the ending feels so intense. Everything happened during the last twenty pages, Nora and Jeremy and the Affair. For me this has been one of the best or the best book I've ever read. Murder mysteries have always been my favorites but this was on another level.

I was really worried for Laila at one point because of how serious her argument with Anders was getting, and I couldn't believe she came to the conclusion of moving out. She was planning to leave, worried about her safety and sanity, and this is a bad addition to everything else that is going on with Jeremy and the accident. I am curious if they have been to court and what's gonna happen because I didn't see it.

Norta has been becoming a detective herself. She is investigating the ring her father had purchased. Laila Lalami made different problems that different people are investigating about the same person, Nora’s dad. As secrets started to get out, the whole family was having conflict.

I was surprised that I didn't get to hear what happened in the court, because the book didn't talk about it yet. Instead of the court I got to read a lot of talk between Nora and Jeremy. They had an intimate moment when suddenly Fierro was stalking them which was spooky. Jeremy beat up Fierro but after all everything went well adn Fierro opened up which I felt happy about as he has been acting as tuff guy.

Wow, what an unexpected thing to find in Driss's phone. The detectives went through his text messages and found out that he was having an affair with a younger woman named Beatrice. He was even planning on marrying her. This makes me feel confused, and I am wondering if his affair is making his wife feel less sad about his death after finding out, considering she already knew about it, but still said it "would pass".

The phone call that Nora had nine days after her dad passed away really left me thinking. Nora’s dad had ordered an engagement ring right before he had passed, meaning that he was cheating on Nora’s mom. This added a lot of weight for Nora to carry, she had to both carry the weight of her father’s death and the weight of his secrets. This also makes Nora see her dad differently.

At the start of these pages the killer described the hit and run as a tragic accident. That got me annoyed as he was so chill about it. "it was an accident, why is that so hard to understand". This shows it wasn't an accident. After that something happened that I've been waiting. Efrain went to the police station and said what he saw that night. That made me so happy and now the killer might actually go behind bars.

Nora has been through a lot. Throughout the book it is mostly about her dad who died in a hit-and-run, but there is another part of her culture she sometimes hides. After 9/11 her and Sonya would get called names because they were muslim. Sonya would try to mask that by saying she was not muslim but hindu. This really stuck out to me, 2 kids in early high school having to lie about identity.

Fierro has definitely lost his mind, but I can't say for sure that he killed Driss. Jeremy and Nora seem to have almost nothing in common, but that differnces might actually bring them closer. You can tell Jeremy is starting to feel the same way he did back in grade school when he first met her, and he clearly misses it. Nora is in a tough spot when it comes to finding love, but Jeremy may be the one she needs.
