well i am getting rather annoyed. in the second entry she is describing her appearance for the benefit of the reader. this is completely unconvincing as a journal! you wouldn't catch helen garner describing her 'dimples and freckles'. or maybe i'm getting old and grumpy

first entry done. this is supposed to sound 'jane austen-y' (apologies there's probably a word for this style that i'm unaware of) and it does in a way but i can't stop thinking about how the author is american with a degree in writing and i can't quite suspend disbelief enough to fall into this yet. it's a short novella though so i may read the whole thing? you never know...
