Status Updates From Sansei and Sensibility

I was SO CLOSE to DNF’ing until it started talking about the Japanese American stroganoff I grew up eating

It's been a struggle, what with the first 58% being hard core MFA style writing. Like, I'm not built for pages and pages of highbrow colonoscopy-themed satirical cultural analysis (which I flipped through fast while shielding my eyes). I finally made it to the Austen fanfic, which is what I was here for. It occupies the latter 42% of the book.

i told myself i’d read jane austen first so i could really know what she’s doing here but that didn’t happen so i’m going in raw lol the dentist story was interesting and funny and i liked the third chapter reflecting on grandparent photographs

The cover says stories. That's not accurate. Some chapters are, like, long stream of consciousness meditations on cross-cultural Japanese icons? Those chapters are extremely MFA and I just had to skip them. I'm a third of the way through the book and the Jane Austen inspired stuff hasn't started yet.
