I’d forgotten the sharpness of Tatsu’s personality. Tomi’s really not welcoming, but he’s real. No games. Claudia’s very snaky. I’d forgotten how many actual places I’d based my locations & buildings on.

I really like the universe of this story. It’s a romanticized version of where I grew up. I forgot how off-ish Tatsu can be. His appearance is very much a façade. He’s got a coldness beneath the charm. I like that. I like Dave. He’s difficult, but clean in his interactions. Julian’s full of shit. He’s starting to annoy me.

I was writing this part in the summer of 2017, shortly after finding out that I’d passed my practical nursing exam, which I’d sat for in February. I celebrated by getting some cheap champagne. Gus & Claudia have just returned to the city from a holiday in a place based on Cornwall. Reading this makes me happy.

This is so enjoyable to read! I don’t think I enjoyed writing it as much, though I did enjoy writing it.

I find reading this delightful. As a person, I don’t warm terribly to Claudia. But she has a spitefulness that I find very entertaining. She comes across as sugar and spice, but that masks an unpleasantness.

This is so enjoyable to read! I just get the pleasure because I already put all the effort in. And I'm very happy with the revised, reformatted paperback. Reading this takes me back to Edgbaston. I have no desire to return, but I remember what it was to me once. Julian is a character whose physical presence I love. I sense him so clearly it's almost dizzying.

I'm really enjoying this, not least because of the actual setting in which the story takes place. Reading this, I'm enjoying those locations and the seasons there again. Ironically, I have little desire to revisit the UK in real-life.

Damn, reading this is taking me back to the Edgbaston and my summers spent there as a child. Claudia's house was, at times, tricky to visualize because it's based on three different houses. The scene where Julian and her father have the confrontation was completely impromptu, and I decided to include Choden (who's based on a friend) on a whim.

Very happy with the revised edition. The updated cover photo looks much better. I'm also much happier with the formatting. The larger font size is much easier on the eye. It's a more attractive book overall.

At about chapter 10 there's a really interesting decision made the main character. This weird decision makes me very curious about her motivations.
