I don’t feel like it was originally intended to be written in first person, but this is one of the rare cases where I actually like, and even encourage, the choice. It makes this kind of novel more addictive and mysterious without deliberately hiding information for the sake of mystery; it’s simply built into the narration itself, making unusually good use of the technique.
