Story would be so much better if Maya Blake wasn't trying to write so poetically all the time. Like Violet's got shadows under her eyes, and they "mock" her when she looks in the mirror. They're laughing shadows!

I'm really struggling with this one . . . an obnoxious hero and a lot of cliches .

Couldn't we have *started* the story in Tanzania? And could Zak stop kvetching about the heroine forgetting her hat and her sunscreen? Is he supposed to a Montegovan prince or a Jewish mother?
