I’m in for a long, long ride. I was looking for something similar to Kiran Nagarkar’s Cuckold and this came highly recommended. Cuckold, by the way, has the finest writing I’ve ever read, in terms of the language itself but more because it was incredibly moving at times for me, and cathartic at one point. The writing in Wolf Hall has mostly been a hit with a few misses. Overall I’m enjoying it.

"Gregory arrived within the year. Bawling, strong, one hour old,
plucked from the cradle: he kissed the infant's fluffy skull and said, I
shall be as tender to you as my father was not to me. For what's the
point of breeding children, if each generation does not improve on
what went before?"

It's 3am, my eyes are aching but I just can't stop reading! Its like a movie . I get hints of Barry Lyndon. Mantel's prose is so evocative, the time jump from 15 to 40 barely disoriented me.
