Love this woman asking rich people a very simple question: have you ever thought why there are so many people in the world you need to help???

Like, these people don't even want to talk about these issues in a way where they'd be the least bit uncomfortable.

If I had a penny for every modern ruler who wants to help their country through supporting business and cutting social nets, then I'd be rich enough to create my own foundation!!

It would appear that so many well-intentioned people go into philantropy to 'change the system from the inside' and then get co-opted and subsumed in the system. Shocking!

Meanwhile, the endless optimization and 'efficieny' of the business world colonized philantropy.

This feels very insightful: the rich / privileged love giving, but they hate being told to take less. Like with Andrew Carnegie and his wealth manifesto: he advised extreme taking and then extreme giving (which is funny, cause then he is in control of the giving).

This is fascinating, how people with power can't see systemic things, ie to get them to listen about sexism, you have to zoom in, to make them think of their daughters, but the issue is that then they will exclude anyone who is different than their daughters. And 'thought leaders' encourage that for gratification, making everything an individual problem.

This book does a really good job explaining what it's like to live a very precarious life.

Oh yeah, I can see the thread from the trickle down, win-win bullshit to this year's dreadful Abundance bullshit, which is somehow on the nonfiction shortlist for the goodreads choice awards. Ewww.
