Read the second of three short stories on my lunch today, “Hunted Down.” It’s a detective story from the point of view of a life assurance agent. Very strong story, and a very compelling read! Different than what I’m used to from Dickens!

Finished “George Silverman’s Explanation,” the first of three short stories in this collection. Apparently this story is Dickens’ last completed work, and it really packs a punch, examining the most common and important subjects to Dickens, including poverty, self-worth, sacrifice, the nature of innocence, the value of education, hypocrisy among the religious, and the ever-present hope of redemption.
