This story is confusing. What is going on?

Decent omegaverse with interesting pack dynamics that I've not come across in this particular way. I'm listening to the audiobook. John Solo does a lot of Omegaverse and he is generally okay at it even if in my mind his voice doesn't fit with the characters. I've.listened to so maybe of his abo readings it's almost comforting.
