So far a very provocative and interesting opening. George Washington decides to be King rsather than President to “allow a system where government can work efficiently without bureaucracy” which I can both see happening and also not see happening. The founding fathers were very paranoid of mob rule, but deeply hated the idea of a king. In fact, President is more of a figurehead in the actual Constitution…

Yes, I did choose to start this book immediately after saying I couldn't emotionally handle any book that was too entrenched in American politics...don't worry about it.

And then George almost immediately drops this banger of a line:
"What was the purpose of elected officials? None that they could see. Only partisanship. Infighting. Disunity."

Like, why do I agree? I promise I like democracy as a concept

This is the oddest book. The concept is really interesting but it’s like the author isn’t explaining everything. It feels like when I read books in another language and I miss some of the meaning and find myself confused. At times, I’m completely lost as to WTF is happening.
