Hampton's revulsion at striking workers blithely ignores why workers might go on strike. The casual remark of how many German prisoners from Stalingrad returned from Soviet captivity ignores how many Soviet prisoners returned, as well as their fates under Stalin. A more rigorous historian would be preferred.

Hampton relies on specious characterisations to explain the failings of non-US countries, making this read more like propaganda than history. The French, despite US fantasy, weren't renowned for surrendering, the British were also complicit in the fall of France, and the Russians in 1904 weren't programmed robots, any more than the US leadership were full of radical misfits. They'd broken the code for Midway.
