Caputo really is a Squirrelly fellow. Though he admits his mission in this book may be nuts, it is noble nonetheless. The critics of Derrida have their cheeks stuffed with the most misguided interpretations of deconstruction, and they must be dissolved, should any progress be made in our understanding. For this, we shall explore many a nutshell, small peaks at an aspect of deconstruction, only to crack them later on.

Sometimes it can be useful to try the impossible. Deconstruction is affirmation, and affirmation implies a promise, iterability. But the repetition of deconstruction refuses to be a mechanical duplication. Instead it is a reinventing, a reinauguration, a recontextualization, something new born from the tensions between memory and expectation, between the spectral and the messianic.
