I'm afraid I don't really like this narrator. I'm used to narrators performing the parts and there is little performance here. Almost everyone has the same voice. Even the female characters.
Also Truman, the pov character, is annoying, petulant, and ungrateful. Yes, he's been bullied and riduculed in the past, but he's 18 not 12 and taking it out on the one person who loves him unconditionally is childish.

That was good. I adore Truman.

Weird, I was just talking to one of my sons about The Birds yesterday, telling him how Ed McBain, aka Evan Hunter, wrote the screenplay. He borrowed one of my Ed McBain hardcovers for that reason.

Today I'm reading where Truman and Mike are watching the movie.

Truman couldn't begin to hope to hide from the world who he really was. And Mike? He was so deeply hidden no one would guess who he really was.

There was snickering, and Truman tried to pretend the cutting remark didn't bother him. But it did - it always did, no matter how secure he became in his own skin. It wasn't so much the assault on his masculinity that hurt - even Truman had to admit he was about as masculine as Miley Cyrus - no, it was more the fact that it felt like someone wanted to hurt him. On purpose.

Poor Truman. I just want to hug him.

I'm finally sitting down to read it.

Oh Rick, Rick, it was all going so well but then Truman dissed Kind Hearts and Coroners as being a 'bit of a snooze' and now I think we might have to break up...

Small-town bigotry does not win in this book. Full review to come.

Truman’s lunch sounds delish...but not carb free. I used to eat apples almost every day until I started eating Keto and discovered apples have a LOT of carbs!
