reading about the eugenics movement is genuinely horrifying because it shows how easily people can disguise cruelty as "science" or "progress." the idea that human beings could be ranked by worth — and that entire groups of people were treated as disposable because of it — is deeply disturbing. it's one of those parts of history that reminds me how dangerous dehumanization becomes when it's backed by authority.
