A charming and introspective look at the writer’s process and journalistic prowess. Her honesty and humility here is extremely endearing. I loved her unexpected essays on Robert Mapplethorpe, Gamblers Anonymous, and her beef with the Stanford admissions director (funny yet sharp). It’s almost upsetting me how perfect her prose is, how easy and natural her talent seems.

The foreword was pretty long considering how short the book is but I think it may be better than the works themselves. I do not have a lot of knowledge about 50s-60s USA (or like. Anywhere). as embarrassing as that is, and so a lot of this means very little to me. It’s so short tho I want to read it just for the check mark ☑️
