I'm finding the writing style for this book rather odd and clunky. At first I thought the person was not a native English speaker as the use of idioms was 'off', but that doesn't seem to be the case. "Spitting image" became 'spat out image'. The odd turns of phrase is making this hard to get into and is rather jarring.
