A really interesting firsthand look into another way of life in America I assume most aren’t familiar with. It has a similar cadence and intimacy to Ehrenreich’s Nickel and Dimed, but it doesn’t feel as preaching, probably because of the author’s then dire financial circumstances.

We all agree that life is suffering, right? Because if life is suffering, it must be worth suffering. Because if life is to have any meaning, I need to take responsibility for it. And if life is suffering, then I need to take responsibility for that suffering too, don't I?
