It's interesting to learn about the West's inconsistency when it comes to Rwanda, regarding an overarching rhetoric that preaches about policing and spreading liberalism. The fact that government ministers have been privy to Kagame's political assassination regime is indicative of this willingness to turn a blind eye. It also seems to present a precursor to the Rwanda-UK immigration plan.

The introduction clearly sets out the context that has shaped the contortion of Rwanda's history. The interaction between a culture that encourages deception, a dark legacy of pain and shame, as well as an oppressive and intrusive political machine has made Rwanda insular. Already, this backdrop is helping me to make sense of my recent visit to Rwanda where locals could be more reticent to speak openly and candidly.
