Ch 11: Atp I'm really not sure how Nana's imminent downfall will begin. If what happened to the mare Nana, is a foreshadowing of sorts then now is very much the time she should go up in flames. But the count is so besotted and weak and even beside him she has no lack of lovers and suitors, so I am at a loss to understand what could go wrong, like immediately

Ch 10: She reverted to childish pastimes, covered Bijou with kisses from morning to night, killed time with stupid pursuits, waiting, but only ever for a man, to whom she submitted with weary complaisance. And in the middle of that self-abandonment, her only concern was the way she looked.
Quite scathing. Nana can't get satisfaction from love or money alone and they won't be coming in a pair together.

Ch 9: "I bet you a hundred louis that all those people laughing tonight, I’ll have them worshipping the ground I tread on! Yes, I’ll show your Paris what a fine lady I am!"

Ch 8: Nana is so inflammable, hypocritical, childish and mercurial. She's the darling of a world made just for someone like her. Also all of Nana's lovers are irrelevant so that's nice.

Ch 7:. I think something that I do find surprising in this ocean of characters is that there's not a single person worth rooting or caring for. Nana comes the closest but even she's below the mark. They are all stupid and immoral do stupid and immoral things. A very good critique of society though.

Ch 6: men are such animals. So a short break to the countryside and then back to Paris again.

Ch 5: And now the interminable backstage chaos and the beginning of what is set up to be the greatest love affair of Nana. Men and denizens of this theater know no morals.

Ch 4: The atmosphere of Nana is chaotic and gossipy. It's so chaotic in fact that it drowns Nana completely sometimes making her leave, sometimes physically sitting glumly in her bed saying "I won't be insulted", sometimes making her abandon her reason, welcoming guests with peals of laughter even though she doesn't remember inviting them.
