Can we talk about how EXCELLENT Dickinson is at writing set pieces for war fighting?! Just a masterful narrator. It’s like watching a war scene! Throwback to the set pieces from the war in Aurdwynn from Traitor Baru Cormorant. Exquisite. Done again here in Kyprananoke between the vessels Sulane and Eternal and Ascentatic. What a wonderful storyteller! I’m so full of emotions!

Fuck. I’m not bullish that being sentenced to death by keelhaul by the traitor admiral Juris Ormsment is going to convert Baru into an empathetic, wise and measures woman. Only awful outcomes ahead I presume. Sigh.

The battle between Falcrest and the Mbo is a battle of ideologies. And this story is a battle of twos. The battle between Falcrest and Mbo, Hard science vs Myth, Torrinde’s proofs vs Farrier’s proofs, Baru vs The Masquerade. We’re caught in many battles of twos. I’m sure these different battles converge at some point and my suspicion is that that point is the matter of ideology and belief. Science vs. Myth.

Again, I am reminded that Baru is living in the trap of her savior complex worldview and her hubristic assessment that f herself. Even plague alone cannot take down an empire. I’ll be slowly making my way through this one. The main issue is that Tau-Indi thinks he’s personal relationships with his childhood friends the reason for war between Falcrest and the Mbo. This seems selfish and stupid but we’re now in myth. I’m interested to know what Dickinson’s play is here.
