Status Updates From One for the Murphys

TEXT to TEXT: The text to text connection I made is Carly's personality. I feel like we match energy because we are both shy and then we warm up to people once we know and trust them more. Her personality is more on the mystery girl side of her and I am the same way. I think Carly and my personality connect really well making it seem like we are the exact same person.

CHARACTERIZATION: The characterization in the book is Carly Conner who is also the narrator and protagonist. Carly was a 12 year old child that moved to foster care after having a rough childhood with her family. She feels like she is always the problem when it's actually her abusive stepdad. The book reveals that even though Carly is shy, she is also really brave and out going.

ANTAGONIST: On page 47, I think the antagonist is Carly's abusive stepdad, Dennis. He causes a lot of pain and fear in her life, which makes it hard for her to trust others. His actions are the reason Carly has been put into foster care with the Murphys. Dennis has made it so it is hard for her to trust others and feel loved again. He represents a tough past that Carly must overcome to grow stronger and feel loved.

ANTAGONIST: I think the antagonist is Carly's abusive stepdad, Dennis. He causes a lot of fear and pain that is cased in her life, which makes it hard for her to trust anyone. His actions are the reason she has been placed into foster care with the Murphys. Dennis has made it, so she has to learn how to feel trusted and loved again. He represents the tough past that she must overcome to be stronger and healthier.
