lower levels of island were nearly bare w/only sparse trees & greenery against dark volcanic rock. … jungle-like vegetation @ higher elevations. few flat areas were covered w/dense flax fields white w/pale, early blooms.

It’s not really a children’s book, but … children do seem to love it.

It’s political satire, with a huge dollop of adventure. Just the thing for bright little girls who grew up pestering their fathers with questions.
