Status Updates From Pew

as someone who has lived in texas my whole life… this portrayal of the south is so flat and boring. one of the most beautiful things about living in the south is that a lot of moving sentiments are expressed in oftentimes simple and fractured language… and yet lacey has all of these characters go on tragic 3 page monologues talking with language like they have an mfa.. literally cartoonish rendering of the south

i think my issue with this novel is a lot of the beautiful lines dont seem earned. in the sense that every chapter is another random character going on a 3 page monologue and thats pretty much it…. which is fine but with a story like this i feel like theres so much more to explore

catherine lacey is so hit or miss for me and unfortunately this one is missing

I mean this with no malice but I’m starting to realize how much of this book has nothing happening at all, but it is building up to the festival (human sacrifice??) and I sincerely hope the hype is worth it
Pew is also dear to me that is my kid
