Status Updates From That Summer of '74

BIG MISTAKE:

“Spending the day with his lover’s ex-fiancée hadn’t been top of Alex’s ‘to-do’ list but felt it would be churlish not to help Rick out.”

Alex couldn’t sleep…A thousand bucks. And Rick’s rent money on top of that. The fancy restaurants, the new clothes, being waved onto movie lots with no questions, having influential people in the art world ask to see his work and actually know his name. A multitude of new experiences of late.

Funny how quickly you got used to new things. Things you didn’t think you wanted and now didn’t want to lose.

Alex glanced back.

This beach house would either be the scene of his renaissance or a double homicide.

Whatever.

He’d have to worry about that tomorrow.

Oh this is good…talk about opposites~

“I know people with beach houses, but I don’t know anybody who actually lives in one.”

Finding a couple loose shingles on the roof, Alex hammered them down. “What’d they do with ‘em then?”

“They visit for an afternoon or weekend every so often.”

“Mostly just a place to store the beach towels, then.” Alex snarked as he hammered a few more nails in and backed down the ladder.

The British-isms are a minor distraction. Americans don’t “queue” for gas or use “torches” for light. We line up and use flashlights! I do like the characters.
