Anyone working in Japan has stayed a night or two at one of those drab, prison-like facilities out in the country for a work event or training. Those places with the “smell of cheap stew,” where the interior is decorated like a public restroom—or the Michael Graves building— and wondered if they’d ever get out. Kirino brings it all back: We weren’t as paranoid as we thought we were.

Haven't been this obsessed in a very long time, nor have I had quite this kind of reading experience where I don't care what words mean and keep going. Years ago, when my Japanese was better, I read novels slowly and dutifully looking up each word. With this, it's more of an oh sh*t, oh sh*t, oh sh******t! No! Doooon't! The dutiful part will come later for a double reward.
