This was assigned reading for law school but it’s really good so far and so interesting to learn about coal mining history. It is surprisingly easy to read and not at all filled with legal jargon. Shoutout Jerry stern

i got this book from an attorney i work with. i’m loving the empathetic and honest tone that gerald stern employs in his writing, especially regarding the sensitive nature of black american’s and their experience in the south during this time. i’m intrigued by his work with civil rights and the imagery he paints regarding west virginia. particularly the part about john denver’s song. very pretty.
