I find it odd that the book seems to focus on threats to governments, states and corporations more than individuals, communities and societies. Also, whenever it discusses the risks vs the benefits, it gives a much more potent accounting of risks compared to supposed benefits. Repeated reference to funding, research and competitions via government, national science institutes, military agencies gives the game away.

The more you learn, the more cognisant you become of just how little you know, despite what you believe you understand and have figured out thus far. Some items at first glance, and for decades even, appear to be and may in reality exist at the margin, but then with a sharp snap there they are foisted upon us unknowing and unsuspecting average types. Only time will tell. In these scenarios I tend towards pessimism.
