Status Updates From The Anatomy of Melancholy

RB is all of the place. There is a chapter on flatulence. The subsequent chapter is about love.

If I hadn't been melancholy before, I am now.

This is entertaining but is to savoured in small doses. Considering its size, it is going to be with me for quite some time.

pg 49: "They command courage and strength in wars, and let themselves be conquered by lust and avarice. They are, in brief, as disordered in their minds as Theristes was in his body."

…and so that old aphorism of Aristotle may be verified, ‘Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiæ,’ no excellent wit without a mixture of madness.

pg 37: "The vices and the passions of the soul, anger, lust, desperation, pride, presumption etc."

pg 31: "I respect matter, not words; remembering that of Cardan, 'verba propter res, non res propter verba', words should minister to matter, not vice versa."

pg 8:
"The hypochondriac leans on his arm
