So the last couple of hours of this are just gonna be “I’m obsessed with him/her, but there’s no way he/she wants to be with me, so I just need to get over not being with him/her.” Over and over. Which has been persistent throughout the book but at least before they broke up there were other things happening. Now it’s only unjustified and annoying wallowing.

Michael explaining what his dad did, this dialogue almost exactly being: “my dad was bad to women and I look like him and I’m the same height as him so I’m bad to women, too, for money.” And this third act breakup… oh brother this guy stinks. This is what y’all are going up for?

Also this “idk if he/she wants to be in a real relationship” thing is very tired when it’s obvious they already ARE in a real relationship with each other. Or “she’s not gonna like me once she finds out about what my dad did…” What does that have to do with you??? And she’s clearly obsessed with you, there’s not much that could change that.

This couple’s supposed romantic chemistry, I don’t believe you, you need more people! I have seen the heights of the casual relationship that is devastatingly intense from the beginning that becomes a committed relationship in contemporary romance (hollanov baby!!) and this ain’t it. And probably too straight for me ❌

Put this audiobook on to have something in the background and this seemed frivolous enough. I will probably continue avoiding romance novels after this. I was sure I would dnf, but I’m so close to the end I might as well finish it.
