Status Updates From Sunset (Nightlord, #1)

Poor Sasha.

Finding the main character and those around him pretty dull to start. I don’t get much sense that he cares much about anything or anyone, or has any big aspirations. The exposition feels like reading an almanac; it seems like it’s gonna be one of *those* books. I’ll keep this one around, but I’m not very motivated to continue so far.

Shame, this book started out strong but ever since the portal my interest has been declining for various reasons. One, not enough true conflict, there’s too much aimless meandering and a lot of ‘fat’ that could have been trimmed. Two, I like my vampires more traditionally grounded – I want my vampires to be vampires, not wizards or aliens with vampire elements… this checks both those unwanted boxes. 😒

This has taken a different turn than I hoped… I didn’t realize these vampires weren’t really… “earth realm” creatures? I liked the quirky humor and modern setting. Ah well, still not bad as far as story goes.
