-opinionated from the start. The vampirism was never fully acknowledged in the sense that these weren’t truly vampires. The magic or supernatural elements in this book were mild, which I don’t think is a bad thing. It’s a somewhat unique take, to spin nobility drinking blood via bloodletting as a form of superiority.

I’m glad Marion & the girls (& kitty!) escaped. I’d classify this as a drama with a horror setting, more so than a straight up horror. This was an atmosphere focused book, rather than plot driven or even character focused imo. I still liked it though, since I’m hugely into vampires, sapphic characters, & unhinged women. I liked that, although Marion had her struggles, she was pretty steadfast, brave, & -
