Status Updates From Água viva

From the moment you are born you know to want. You love your cross, you seek your guide. There is no you and there is no me.

Okay get the gist? But now consider:

You ate your own placenta so you are strong. You are alone, walking through the dark. There are only instants, there is only you.

Now do that over and over again for like 45 minutes but with an absurdly talented wordsmith. I’m liking it so far!

This is a difficult read for sure, but man this is a fun ride. All of these paragraphs are fragments but that doesn’t take away any meaning for me. Lispector aims to capture the instantaneous joys, pains, and proclaim hallelujah to such things. These fragments represent her thoughts in moments. They capture as much meaning as a painting would; an infinite amount of meanings may be derived. Vague, yet intentional

In a first, I am putting down a book because the phrase “eating my placenta” was used too many times

Writing in here really oscillating between genuinely stunning and “ok sure Clarice”
