Interesting book. More of a journal. Mathews writes to himself, for himself, at himself, about himself, and maybe even through himself.
Reminds me of The Dangling Conversation's subtle dig at self-absorbed pseudo-intellectuals in the midst of the melancholy of a fading relationship: "We speak of things that matter / Words that must be said /Can analysis be worthwhile? / Is the theater really dead?"
