Status Updates From King of Nowhere

A miaowing dog. That’s both nice and, perhaps, the most perverse vision offered by this book.

Tell me how Bob was not inspired by Chigurh from No Country for Old Men.

I am surprised there were no attempts to leave North Waherek as soon as ‘the inciting event’ took place — or, at least, once the after-effects began.

To note: I have been enjoying the transitions from plot-line to plot-line through quotes that can be applicable to both. (Thinking of Watchmen, where I encountered that technique first and where it used more sparingly.)

‘Given enough time, opposing ideals become indistinguishable — the snake devours its own tail.’

'33,000 milliRems and rising…' — suddenly, everything seems to (briefly, somewhat) make sense. Roadside Picnic by the Strugatskys comes to mind, too.

The conclusion of Chapter Two introduces a hint of conspiracy. Altogether, this has been morbidly delightful.

Sullivan and Sully might be my favourite characters. They and John Doe (requiescat in pace).

Ents! ‘A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.’

Seeing the cover of the first issue, I really wish they had used that for the book. The one it has been printed under severely undersells the art.

John Doe never stood a chance, and yet, I’m sad.

There is a deer driving a car, catching the protagonist in the headlights. I think I shall enjoy the sense of humour in this book.

A very strong opening page visually: phantasmagorical art, creatures that live in the dark when you are a child and become your acquaintances once an adult.

(There is no pagination in this book, so I shall be going with estimates.) The font used for narration is very pleasant.

- I thought the art was really ugly during issue #1 but kinda started getting used to it halfway through issue #2.
- I couldn't figure out if the concept was smart or cringy and downright weird. Probably could've figured it out if I'd read further.
- The hoopla borrow has expired so DNF time! I do hope I can pick this back up and finish it in the future though.
