The Nose - 4/5. I enjoyed this more than the overcoat, and the pages just seemed to fly by, but still, I'm somehow left wanting more. Just a bit though. I think this work will improve with every reread, but it also needs to sit with me for a while.

The overcoat - 4/5 - Absurd to the point of realism, and realistic to the point of the absurd, a great study of the philistine existence of the east. I appreciate it in its own literary context, but the selfish, modern reader in me yearned for that "je se ne quoi" that just didnt reach me. I'm excited to read more from Gogol though!
