Another stupid heroine. Ugh.

I adored Ruth and Gron series—it was unique and emotional. I also like a couple of her Alien series books. She’s got a knack for creating creatures just human enough to connect with the reader but strange enough to be believably different species. Unfortunately, this book has all the creative elements but I just don’t like Lane at all. She judgemental and annoyingly career driven. And the hero is just boring.

Not seeing a payout for Lane's Xenophobic bigotry, and it's just getting glossed over. That's so White and disappointing. I hate when one character is so desperate to be with the other that their genuinely rotten behavior is glossed over and blanket forgiven with no reflection on the part of the offending party.

Someone wastes a lot of space talking about how she knows when people are lying—I might start counting, but this is at least the 6th mention in barely 100 pages. Constantly fluffing herself. This had better be a set up for some real sweet schadenfreude later.

JFC. I guess we're just going to keep leaning into what an awful person she is. At what point am I supposed to be cheering her and her happiness on, exactly?

And I can see why she has to hype herself up in her head so hard: she's a real shit interviewer to boot. I'm getting real Diane Sawyer bullying Brittney vibes here.

JFC. Having a really hard time w/ FMC. Lancaster writes slow, slightly bigoted heroines, but she broke the damn mold. Just. Kent, why you doing this to yourself? There's literally nothing in her to like? If this is some fated mate trope, I'm going to feel so sad for you, cuz you KNOW she hates you. Rabidly. Unapologetically. Doesn't think you're a person. She's ignorant and proud of it. That's ugly as shit.
