I think it’s fascinating that baby otters can swim as soon as they’re born.

They can’t, actually. They’re born with fur that keeps them from sinking and they can bob along in the water.

Her dad was considered the black sheep of the family because he was levelheaded and had a “rolll with it” attitude.

I’ve lived in this town for 75 years. I have 11 grandkids, 7 of whom are boys. I’ve seen a lot of stupid in my life.

Mr. Congeniality would have to try harder to fluster her than by giving the one-word answers. Especially now that he was holding a goat (and flexing biceps).

“And is there a Harry and Ron to go with the Hermione?” Charlie asked, pointing to the (pot-bellied) pig.

“Yup.”

“What are their names?”

“Are you just trying to get me to say goofy goat names?”

“They have goofy names?”

“They’re named after the seven dwarves.”

“What about the ducks?”

“The Brady Bunch.”

Charlie grinned.

Southern boys could turn charm on and off like a faucet. This guy seemed unaware he was being charming.

(This book is fun so far … three cousins married on the same day, one cousin featured alligators[!] as wedding guests … Charlie having grown up in Shreveport & now living as marketing manager in Atlanta has her forget that crazy in the bayou is a whole ‘nother level from usual crazy.)
