Nāgārjuna ...is concerned not with disputing any particular definition of knowledge, nor any account of perception or inference. ... he is obsessed with probing the question of whether the entire project of epistemology, as conceived by pramāṇa theorists, is tenable at all. He believes that it is the epistemologist's job to prove that knowledge can be attained ..by establishing the existence of epistemic instruments.

On the strongest reading, the Buddha is to be considered a pramāṇa full stop - that is, as a source of knowledge. Understood in this way, the Buddha - or the word of the Buddha - should be treated as a third means of knowledge over and above perception and inference. On a weaker reading, the Buddha is likened to, or has a similarity to the two pramāṇas of perception and inference.

Dharmakīrti ... is famed for his seven texts on epistemology that comment on and clarify (or expand upon) the claims made in Dignāga's works. Of those seven texts, his two longest treatises ... are of such importance that they should be regarded not just as the most important texts in Indian Buddhist epistemology but as among the most important works on epistemology in the history of philosophy.

Incredibly fascinating. It's a book that one should read slowly and very closely. I often stop halfway through a paragraph to write out in a FB message to my long-suffering friends what I'm trying to wrap my head around in this book.
