the idea that we were rivals was just something started by the media, and then people started to ask, 'Who do you like, The Beatles or the Stones?' And it became an either/or thing. I've written a lot of songs, but certain ones stand out, and if I had to choose what I thought was my best work over the years, I would probably include 'I Saw Her Standing There'. No, I would definitely include this one.
I first played this song to John when he and I got together to smoke tea in my dad's pipe. (And when I say tea, I mean tea.)

I'm attracted to the binary. I state that quite casually, but I think there's actually a lot more to it than my just saying, "I'm attracted to the binary." Once you get down to the scientific biological level, in my core, I probably am the binary. All of us are probably more binary than we might realise.

I've had some pretty wild massages, and(.) I mean funny wild, not sexual. We recorded a whole bunch of stuff at Lympne Castle. Why? I don't know. I suspect because it was nearish to where we lived, on the way to Folkestone on the south coast. (...)so you'd get these kinds of slightly oddball things happening and oddball songs coming out. I'm a bit more purposeful these days than I was then. I was probably smoking a little too much wacky baccy at the time.
